Question

I'm a member on a forum where I am listed as the top poster, but the rate seems to be calculated a bit high; is it really counting all of my posts over a 30 day period? Is there a guideline that explains all of this in greater detail?

Answer

Summary

The field "USER_TOTAL_POSTS", found in the user profile table in the database, contains a numeric value of how many posts the user has created. The cache files, located in the "cache_builders/" directory are "top_posters.php" and "top_posters_30.php".

Top Posters

In the "top_posters.php" cache builder file (located in the "cache_builders/" directory) all of the users are sorted by who has the most posts, and the X amount of users ("X" being however many are configured in the Control Panel to be displayed) are sent to forum island.

Top Posters - 30 Days

Unlike the standard top poster island ("top_posters.php") in the "top_posters_30.php" cache builder file (located in the "cache_builders/" directory) the posts table is included. All of the users are sorted by who has the most posts within a specific time frame (the "POST_POSTED_TIME" field is checked and grouped by each user and printed out), and the X amount of users ("X" being however many are configured in the Control Panel to be displayed) are sent to forum island.

Configuration

Configuration of the "Top Poster" islands is done through the Admin Center at:
CP -> Portal -> Portal Settings -> "Total # of Top Posters to list?"
